EU SST Front Desk welcomes new members to EU SST Partnership

EUSPA welcomes Belgium, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Luxembourg as the newest members of the EU Space Surveillance and Tracking (EU SST) Partnership. A new SST Partnership Agreement, which entered into force on 12 April 2026, brings the total number of participating Member States to 19.

The EU Space Surveillance and Tracking Partnership has grown to 19 members, reinforcing the European Union capacity to safeguard satellites and deliver space safety services to an expanding user community.

The four new members join through their respective Constituting National Entities: the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Belgium, the Ministry of Innovation and Growth of the Republic of Bulgaria, Innovation Agency Lithuania and the Ministry of the Economy of Luxembourg.

As the EU SST Front Desk, EUSPA serves as the main interface between the Partnership and its users, facilitating the delivery of space surveillance and tracking (SST) information and services. Today, more than 600 satellites are protected from the risk of collision, and over 400 organisations are receiving space safety services - such as collision avoidance, re-entry risk prediction and fragmentation analysis - through the EU SST Service Provision Portal, managed by EUSPA.

Building on this foundation, the Front Desk will focus on further expanding the SST user community and understanding its needs, while strengthening cooperation with other European Union (EU) Space components and initiatives. EUSPA will also continue supporting the development of new technologies to address the challenges of an increasingly congested orbital environment - including the creation of a space traffic coordination platform.

'We are pleased to see that more Member States join EU SST. As the EU SST Front Desk, EUSPA is playing a key role in ensuring space safety and sustainability and stands ready to continue cooperating with the EU SST Partnership to provide SST services and further expand the SST user community', said EUSPA Executive Director Rodrigo da Costa.

A partnership built on shared expertise

The EU SST Partnership brings together the national assets and expertise of its members to improve EU's performance and strategic autonomy in space situational awareness (SSA). The four new members join the 15 founding Member States that have been part of the Partnership since its creation in 2022: Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Finland and Sweden.

The Partnership's objectives include:

  • delivering public SST services using the best available European expertise;
  • fostering innovation and competitiveness in the European SSA ecosystem;
  • promoting international coordination between SSA systems worldwide.

The Partnership also seeks to make use of the synergies between civil and defence assets, recognising that an awareness of the situation in space is of interest to both.

An amendment to the Implementing Arrangement between the EU SST Partnership and EUSPA, which entered into force on 14 April 2026, has also been signed.

As next steps, the enlarged Partnership will sign new EU-funded grants to sustain activities through 2028.
