Construction Begins on Part of Glenn-Viniard Road in Chickamauga Battlefield

Date:
August 12, 2026

FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. - Beginning August 12, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will close Glenn-Viniard Road, between LaFayette Road and Wilder Road, for construction within Chickamauga Battlefield. The project will provide routine road-paving maintenance to improve visitor safety and enhance the overall visitor experience. During this project, all public traffic will be prohibited on the closed portion of the road. The park anticipates completing the project by early September.

This project will impact the designated Chickamauga Battlefield tour route by restricting access between Tour Stop 5 and Tour Stop 6. Temporary signage at Tour Stop 5 will guide visitors along an alternate route leading outside the park via LaFayette Road, turning right onto Highway 27 and right again to reenter the park via Wilder Road.

Drivers should use caution and slow down when approaching construction equipment or workers to ensure everyone's safety. For status of this and other closures, check the website at www.nps.gov/chch/planyourvisit/conditions.
