MSW student Angela Sciarrone named Manatee County Team Member of the YearExternal Article Title

Angela Sciarrone, a Master of Social Work (MSW) student on the Sarasota-Manatee campus, was named Manatee County Government's 2025 Team Member of the Year for providing consistently outstanding service to Manatee County and improving the community through her role in the Public Safety Department.

Sciarrone serves as an outreach case manager with Manatee County's Community Health Program, where she works directly with vulnerable residents to connect them with medical care, housing resources, and critical support services.

"Thank you for being such a dependable team member to your department and for setting standards of excellence for other Manatee County employees," County Administrator Charlie Bishop wrote in her award letter. "Your contributions to Manatee County are truly appreciated."

Sciarrone was previously named Team Member of the Month for December, and county leaders noted that her impact goes far beyond traditional case management. She is known for meeting residents where they are - pulling up a chair, listening eye-to-eye, and offering support with genuine compassion. She's built partnerships that speed up medical referrals, created new outreach approaches embraced by her colleagues, and supported people through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

One example that touched many: Sciarrone ensured that a seriously ill, unhoused client received essential medical care and hospice support. After the client passed away, she worked tirelessly to honor her final wish for a dignified burial at sea off Anna Maria Island - securing a grant and arranging a charter boat.

Sciarrone joined the MSW program this fall, inspired by her passion for public service. As part of the award, Sciarrone will be recognized during the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, where the county will issue a proclamation declaring "Angela Sciarrone Day." She will also receive a commemorative award, have her name engraved on a plaque in the county's administration foyer and receive a monetary recognition.
