Governor Lamont Statement on Inaugural Meeting of the Governor’s Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 Education Funding and Accountability

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Ned Lamont released the following statement in response to today's inaugural meeting of the Governor's Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 Education Funding and Accountability:

"Last week, I signed into law a state budget for this upcoming fiscal year that delivers an historic increase in funding to all of Connecticut's school districts-funding that will be used to help keep teachers in classrooms and protect the programs students depend on. Connecticut spends more per pupil than nearly any other state, and we have one of the best school systems in the country to show for it. However, we need to do more to repair the state's outdated education funding formulas to reflect the modern-day realities of our schools and the students they serve. We need a full, top-to-bottom review of how the state funds its public schools and make the adjustments necessary to improve student outcomes and success in all schools statewide. I've created this commission to do thorough research, look at other states' approaches, and come up with big ideas to ensure each Connecticut school is adequately funded and maximizing results for their students. By January, I expect serious, actionable recommendations on my desk."
