Date
Aug 28, 2026

Operational Performance
BNSF operating teams are generating strong performance and building on the positive momentum leading into the Labor Day holiday. Car velocity increased compared with both the prior week and prior month, while terminal dwell improved nearly 2% versus the prior week and more than 2% versus the prior month. Local service exceeded 91%, reflecting strong service performance across the network. Volume also increased from the prior week, surpassing 200,000 units.

Coal Labor Day Operating Plan
Coal trains - both loaded and empty - will continue to operate according to regular schedules. Please click here for more information on the Coal Labor Day Operating Plan.

Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Extreme heat is expected to persist across portions of the Central and Southern Plains into next week, and BNSF teams will continue monitoring conditions and adjust operations as needed to support safe, reliable service. Across the rest of the network, favorable operating conditions are expected.

Maintenance activity remains in full swing across portions of the BNSF network. Bridge, track and other infrastructure improvement projects are ongoing in several areas, particularly across portions of the Midwest and Central Plains, including Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado, as well as parts of Montana. Operations and engineering teams are coordinating work plans to support network fluidity and minimize customer impacts.

As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
