SIIA Statement on the White House National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence

The following can be attributed to Paul Lekas, Executive Vice President, Global Public Policy & Government Affairs:

SIIA commends the Administration for today's release of the National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence. This Framework represents a significant step forward in establishing a cohesive, national vision for the future of AI in America, one that balances the need for robust innovation with essential protections for consumers. The framework aligns closely with core elements of SIIA's Federal AI Legislative Roadmap. By prioritizing a unified federal framework to preempt a burdensome and fragmented landscape of state-level AI laws, Congressional action would provide the regulatory certainty necessary for American businesses to lead on the global stage. The framework also emphasizes the work of the First Lady to protect children online by focusing on empowering parents and guardians, adopting commercially reasonable and privacy protective age-assurance requirements, and protecting free speech. SIIA looks forward to working with both the White House and Congress towards legislation that achieves these objectives and advances a unified federal approach.
