Department of Justice Plans to Join Case Aimed At Shutting Down Planned Parenthood

WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, Planned Parenthood Federation of America issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Justice indicated it plans to intervene in the False Claims Act case. In doing so, the Trump administration would join the existing plaintiffs suing Planned Parenthood organizations for more than $1.8 billion to try to shut them down:

"The Trump administration has spent two years trying to shut down Planned Parenthood through legislative, administrative, and legal attacks. Now, they are going to use the Department of Justice to try again," said Susan Baker Manning, Sr. VP of Legal & General Counsel, Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "They want to bully Planned Parenthood out of business. We're going to fight this every step of the way, including at trial."

Planned Parenthood health centers provide 9.9 million essential healthcare services like birth control and cancer screenings to more than 2 million people every year. The Trump administration has spent years attacking Planned Parenthood to try to shut down health centers - all because Planned Parenthood health centers provide abortions where legal.

The case is expected to go to trial in 2027.
