Office of Special Prosecutions Completes Review of Officer-Involved Shooting in Anchorage

(Anchorage, AK) - The Office of Special Prosecutions completed its review of an officer involved shooting that occurred on May 19, 2026, involving Emil McCord and Anchorage Police Department Officers Jacob Jones, Justin Miller, and Alexander Roman.

The review determined that Officer Jones, Officer Miller, and Officer Roman were each legally justified in the use of deadly force against McCord. The incident occurred after the officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man was firing gunshots into the air at the intersection of Bragaw Street and Reka Drive. When the officers arrived, McCord began walking towards them while holding a handgun. McCord was ordered to drop the gun multiple times, but did not comply with the officers' commands. McCord then pointed the firearm at the officers, at which point each officer fired his weapon at McCord. McCord was struck multiple times and died from the gunshot wounds.
