City of Tuscaloosa Invites Residents to Celebrate Waste & Recycling Workers Week

The City of Tuscaloosa invites residents to join in celebrating Waste & Recycling Workers Week June 15-19 by recognizing the Environmental Services employees who help keep our community clean, safe and beautiful every day.

From collecting household waste and recycling to maintaining city streets, these dedicated employees provide essential services that support health and quality of life across Tuscaloosa. The Environmental Services Department completes approximately 25,000 collections each week, with fewer than 20 missed collections on average.

"Waste and recycling workers are some of the hardest-working public servants in our city," said Chris Meggs, Director of Environmental Services. "Their commitment to serving Tuscaloosa often happens behind the scenes, but the impact of their work is seen in every neighborhood, every day."

Residents are encouraged to show their appreciation throughout the week in simple and meaningful ways:

  • Leave bottled water or individually packaged snacks for collection crews.
  • Download and color a Garbage Truck or Recycling Truck appreciation coloring sheets. Display completed artwork on garbage or recycling bins.
  • Write a thank-you note or create a sidewalk chalk message near your collection area.

If you do something special to thank a waste or recycling worker this week, please share a photo on social media and tag @tuscaloosacity.
