The Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service have issued advice for the Upper Rock Nature Reserve high-risk season and have called for extra care and vigilance during this period until 23rd October 2026.
During this time, the GFRS will conduct weekly inspections along designated routes, and report any shortcomings or issues for action by relevant stakeholders, including Aquagib and the Department of the Environment. This is in line with the Upper Rock Nature Reserve Fire Emergency Response Plan.
Members of the public are asked to follow this advice whilst enjoying the Upper Rock Nature Reserve:
• Respect No Smoking signs and areas
• Do not discard lit cigarette ends; make sure they are completely extinguished
• Do not light fires outdoors
• Do not litter (especially glass)
• No fly-tipping
• Report overgrown vegetation to the Department of the Environment
• BBQs cannot be held in public areas without prior authorisation
• Upper Rock residents - Please seek GFRS advice
• Residents - Make sure that you have a safety zone around your property by removing combustible materials (wood, debris, dry vegetation)
• Always have extinguishing media available (garden hose, extinguisher)
• Have an escape plan (quickest route to safety)
• If you discover a fire - Evacuate and call the Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service immediately (999)
