Board of County Commissioners' Schedule for May 25 - 29

MONDAY, May 25
4:00 p.m. - Durango Healing Field
La Plata County Commissioners will attend the closing ceremony for the Durango Healing Field, a tribute to honor and remember our fallen veterans. The Durango Healing Field is at Santa Rita Park, located at 149 S. Camino del Rio in Durango.

TUESDAY, May 26
8:30 a.m. - Executive Session (to be continued after Business Agenda Meeting if necessary)
Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute § 24-6-402 (4), upon the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the quorum present, the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will hold an executive session to discuss the following matters:

  1. For purposes of the Board receiving legal advice on specific legal questions pursuant to Colo. Rev. Stat. § 24-6-402(4)(b). Purpose: Collective Bargaining by County Employees Act, CRS 8-3-101; tax increment financing for urban renewal authorities, C.R.S. §§ 31-25-101 et seq,
  2. Determining positions relative to matters that may be subject to negotiations; developing strategy for negotiations; and instructing negotiators pursuant to Colo. Rev. Stat. § 24-6-402(4)(e).
    Purpose: Negotiations with the Fraternal Order of Police; negotiations
    with the Durango Urban Renewal Authority on the tax increment financing agreement for Durango Crossings.

10:00 a.m. - Business Agenda Meeting
The Board will consider:

  1. Approval of County Cash Requirements May 8, 2026 through May 15, 2026.
  2. Approval of Combined Subdivision Participation and Release Form
    for the Six Remnant Defendants' Settlement regarding national opioid settlements to be used for regional opioid addiction treatment, recovery, and prevention programs.
  3. Approval of the renewal of a bed and breakfast permit for Blue Lake Ranch.
  4. Approval of an Easement Agreement with City of Durango and La Plata Electric Association related to installation of utilities at the Airport.
  5. Approval of a letter supporting Durango Cycling Championships, LLC's application for a Region 9 Enterprise Zone project designation.
  6. Consideration of Ordinance No. O-2026-01 of the Board of County Commissioners amending the La Plata County Code, Chapter 34,
    Fire Prevention and Protection.

THURSDAY, May 28
4:00 p.m. - Commissioner Chat with Commissioner Elizabeth Philbrick
Commissioner Elizabeth Philbrick will host Commissioner Chat at the Pine River Library, located at 395 Bayfield Center Drive. Residents are encouraged to stop by from 4pm to 6pm for an informal chat about county issues or concerns.

FRIDAY, May 29
11:30 a.m. - CCAT 2026 Interim Active Issues & Policy Committee Meeting
The Board will attend the virtual Counties and Commissioners Acting Together (CCAT) Interim Active Issues & Policy Committee Meeting.

2:30 p.m. - Commissioner Marsha Porter-Norton to host Community Office Hours at the Dancing Spirit Center for the Arts in Ignacio
Commissioner Marsha Porter-Norton will host Community Office Hours from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Dancing Spirit Center for the Arts, located at 465 Goddard Avenue in Ignacio. Residents are encouraged to stop by for an informal chat about county issues or concerns.
