Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Hou Yanqi Co chairs the 26th Meeting of ASEAN China Joint Cooperation Committee

On 21 April 2025, the 26th Meeting of ASEAN-China Joint Cooperation Committee was convened at the ASEAN Secretariat. It was co-chaired by Ambassador Hou Yanqi and Ambassador Sarah, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN as the country coordinator for ASEAN-China relations.

Ambassador Hou briefed the meeting on the important outcomes of President Xi Jinping's state visits to Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia, as well as the spirit of the Central Conference on Neighboring Work and the annual two sessions. She mentioned that China has always regarded ASEAN as a priority of its neighboring diplomacy, and will provide more opportunities for the development and prosperity of all countries through its pursuit of high-quality development and high-level opening up. Facing common challenges of unilateralism and power politics, China will continue to work with ASEAN to deepen integrated development, advance regional economic integration, enhance the safety and smoothness of industrial and supply chain and oppose bullying behaviour.

The meeting reviewed the progress of ASEAN-China cooperationand deliberated on its future priorities. All parties agreed to continue to implement the consensus reached by the leaders between the two sides, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields, safeguard rules-based multilateral trading system, and ensure a successful organization of "ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges"topromote new progress in ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
