Georgia Tech and Emory University’s Program Tops the U.S. News Rankings for Graduate Education in Biomedical Engineering

U.S. News and World Report has named Walter H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering as one of the nation's top graduate biomedical engineering programs, in a tie with Johns Hopkins University.

"These rankings recognize the unique collaboration between two world-class institutions, Georgia Tech and Emory University, that train graduate students at the interface of engineering and medicine," said Alyssa Panitch, Coulter BME Department Chair. "Our graduate programs provide students with first-hand exposure to clinical environments, empowering them to meet medical needs and shape the future of healthcare."

The rankings are based on peer assessments conducted by department heads in each specialty area. Peer assessment surveys were conducted in fall 2025 and early 2026 for the engineering specialty rankings.

Georgia Tech's College of Engineering graduate engineering program was ranked no. 4 in the nation. Last September, U.S. News and World Report ranked Coulter BME's undergraduate program at no. 1.

Coulter BME offers a variety of master's and Ph.D. programs ranging from biomedical innovation and development, advanced therapeutics, and robotics, as well as a joint M.D./Ph.D program for future physician scientists.
