Congressman Edwards Announces $33 Million for Helene Recovery Projects

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has released an additional $33 million for 44 recovery projects across Western North Carolina.

With this most recent funding allocation, Western North Carolina has received more than $1 billion in FEMA grants to rebuild public infrastructure, restore essential services, and support long-term recovery after Hurricane Helene.

These awards include:
- $10.7 million to the City of Asheville for multiple projects including permanent repairs to the Bee Tree Dam and the city's Water Resources Department's emergency protective measures.
- $7.4 million to the North Carolina Department of Transportation for road repairs across Avery, Buncombe, and McDowell counties.
- $3.4 million to Avery County for repairs to the senior center and administrative building.
- $1.6 million to the Town of Beech Mountain for emergency protective measures, including temporary power to the emergency operations and mass distribution centers in the immediate aftermath of the storm.
- $1.2 million to the Town of Spruce Pine for repairs to their water and wastewater distribution systems.
- $1 million to North Carolina Emergency Management for emergency protective measures, including activation for the state's emergency response center critical life-saving public information.

"Since day one, it has been my mission to make sure Western North Carolina receives every dollar needed to rebuild after Helene," said Congressman Edwards. "This new round of funding is another significant milestone in getting our communities back on their feet."
