SHREVEPORT - Members of LSU Shreveport's student body, faculty and alumni will play key roles in the upcoming production of "A Soldier's Play" at Shreveport Little Theatre.

The Pulitzer Prize winning play is a murder mystery of African-American officer Sergeant Vernon Waters set on an U.S. Army installation in the 1940's segregated South.

Water commands an all-black unit, and the play explores complex interracial and inner racial issues.

Audiences can see the play on Feb. 12, Feb. 13, Feb. 20 and Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. with weekend showings on Feb. 14, Feb. 15 and Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Shreveport Little Theatre. Visit the SLT website for tickets and more information.

Robert Alford II, an LSUS associate professor, directs the play.

LSUS alumna Dr. Angelique Feaster Evans serves an artistic director, and her Mahogany Ensemble Theatre partnered on the production and provided multiple cast members.

Fellow alumna Laura Beeman Nugent serves as an artistic director and choreographer.

Graduate student CJ Longino will play Lieutenant Byrd.

American playwright Charles Fuller captured the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for Drama with the play being adapted for film with "A Solider's Story" featuring Denzel Washington (who also debuted in the play) and later a limited TV series by the same name.
