Secretary of State Diego Morales Recognizes International Fraud Awareness Week and Highlights Investor Protection Tips
INDIANAPOLIS- (November 18, 2025) -Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales is recognizing International Fraud Awareness Week, November 16-22, 2025-an international initiative dedicated to raising awareness about fraud prevention, detection, and reporting.
Secretary Morales emphasizes the vital work of the Indiana Securities Division, which plays a central role in protecting Hoosier investors from fraudulent and deceptive financial practices. The Division provides investor education, enforces securities laws, and works to ensure that families across Indiana are safeguarded from scams.
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), investment scams were responsible for nearly half of all reported fraud losses in 2024-totaling $5.7 billion of the total $12.5 billion reported nationwide, which is a 25% increase from the previous year.
Hoosiers are encouraged to remain alert for the following warning signs of potential investment or financial fraud:
"International Fraud Awareness Week is a reminder that protecting Hoosiers requires constant vigilance. The Indiana Securities Division is committed to empowering Hoosiers with the tools and knowledge they need to recognize fraud, report it, and keep their hard-earned money safe. Hoosiers deserve to feel secure when making financial decisions," said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.
