OAS CIM Brings Together Civil Society Organizations During the 40th Assembly of Delegates

The Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) held the Forum of Social Organizations for Women's Rights on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., titled "Priorities for an Agenda on Women's Economic Rights," as part of the 40th CIM Assembly of Delegates, which is taking place this week.

The meeting brought together representatives of women's rights organizations from across the region to share priorities, proposals, and consensus on economic rights, care, and labor, financial, and digital inclusion. Their contributions stem from a regional process led by the CIM, which brought together 267 participants from 258 organizations, 29 universities, and 21 private-sector entities from 22 countries.

The opening ceremony featured the participation of the OAS Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Laura Gil; Canada's Permanent Representative to the OAS, Ambassador Stuart Savage; and CIM Executive Secretary Alejandra Mora Mora. During the Forum, participants worked on the findings of the virtual process, the development of collective proposals, and an exchange with candidates for the Presidency, Vice-Presidencies, and the CIM Steering Committee for the 2026-2029 term.

The inputs gathered will be shared with the full delegates to the CIM, ministers, and high-level officials from national mechanisms for the advancement of women's rights during the formal sessions of the Assembly, to be held on May 28 and 29 under the theme "It is time to settle the debt."
