Venice Commission President concludes visit to Hungary

At the invitation of the Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, the President of the Council of Europe's Venice Commission, Marta Cartabia, together with the Austrian member of the Venice Commission, Christoph Grabenwarter, accompanied by the Secretary of the Venice Commission Simona Granata-Menghini, carried out a visit to Hungary, today, 2 July.

The delegation held meetings with the President of the Republic Tamás Sulyok, with the Prime Minister Péter Magyar together with the Minister of the Prime Minister's Office Bálint Ruff, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Orbán and the Minister of Justice Márta Görög, and with the President of the Parliament Ágnes Forsthoffer.

The Venice Commission delegation clarified the role and the working methods of the Commission, with a view to defining the framework for an effective cooperation in the process of restoration of the democratic rule of law state.

The discussions also focused on the timing of the planned adoption of the draft XVII constitutional amendment, against the background of the request for opinion from the Venice Commission recently made by the President of the Republic.
