In the months following the shooting, the Iowa City Police Department has continued to pursue leads and question individuals about their knowledge of the shooting. In recent weeks, additional information about the shooting has emerged.
The investigation shows that on Dec. 30, 2024, Denario Mobley, 20, Iowa City, traveled to the 600 Block of South Lucas Street armed with a handgun and intending to commit a shooting. Once there, Mobley fired multiple rounds into a vehicle that he knew was occupied and associated with the Blount family. Christine Blount was fatally shot during the incident.
As a result of the investigation, Mobley faces one count of first-degree murder. Mobley is currently in custody on unrelated charges and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
"All along, we were confident information existed that would lead to an arrest in this case," said Iowa City Police Chief Dustin Liston. "I am proud of the determination showed by our investigators to provide justice to Christine's loved ones."
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
