Briar Cliff University Names Hanson Chief Operating Officer

July 16, 2026

(Sioux City, Iowa - July 16, 2026) Briar Cliff University has named Dr. Cyndi Hanson as Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately.

In this role, Hanson will provide leadership and oversight for Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities, and the University Safety Committee, along with Briar Cliff's dining and catering partnership with Aramark.

"Cyndi's institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and deep commitment to Briar Cliff make her well-suited for this role," said Briar Cliff University President Dr. Matthew Draud. "As we continue to build the organizational foundation needed for long-term success, her leadership will help ensure our operations remain aligned in service to students, faculty, staff, and the broader campus community."

Hanson joined Briar Cliff University in November 2024 as Human Resources Manager and has played a key role in supporting institutional operations and employee engagement.

Before joining Briar Cliff, Hanson served as Dean of Workforce Development and Executive Director of the South Sioux City Extended Campus for Northeast Community College. Previous roles also include Staff Development Director and Title III Project Director at Western Iowa Tech Community College, as well as assistant professor at Wayne State College.

Hanson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources from Briar Cliff University, a Master of Science in Adult Education, Training and Leadership from Drake University, and a Doctor of Education Administration from the University of South Dakota.

Hanson's appointment reflects a strategic restructuring of the University's leadership team designed to strengthen operational integration.
