First Mid is honored to recognize Katie King, Farm Manager with First Mid Ag Services in Springfield, IL, as our Volunteer Spotlight for February 2025. Katie is committed to supporting local community organizations through volunteerism, consistently demonstrating our core values.
What causes are you passionate about supporting through volunteerism? I am happy to give back to any organization that I can, but the causes closest to my heart are those involved with agriculture. Growing up in 4-H and FFA, I learned the importance of volunteering and community service. These organizations helped set the foundation for my continued commitment to giving back, and they instilled a passion for helping others. Today, I spend a lot of time promoting events at our local county fair, with a focus on livestock and youth events. These activities bring the community together and provide young people with opportunities to learn and grow. Additionally, I work closely with the Sangamon County Farm Bureau and Agriculture in the Classroom, which allows me to contribute to agricultural education and advocate for the future of farming. Volunteerism has always been an integral part of my life, and I'm proud to continue supporting these causes that mean so much to me.
What would you tell others who are thinking about volunteering? If you're thinking about volunteering, my advice is simple: do it! There's no feeling more satisfying than being able to give back and seeing the joy and excitement it brings to others. There are so many ways to contribute, and each one makes a difference. I have found that helping students during my time in the classroom is one of the most rewarding aspects. The simple things often have the biggest impact, and it is inspiring to see how small acts of kindness can light up someone's day. Volunteering, especially when it involves educating and supporting our youth, is one of the best ways to invest in a brighter, more prosperous future. Donating your time might seem small, but it has a lasting impact, and the rewards you get from knowing you've made a difference are priceless.
What are ways you think others can get involved? If you're wondering how to get involved in volunteering, the first step is to find something you're passionate about-whether that's sports, music, the arts, or agriculture. There are countless organizations out there that could benefit from your time and talents. No matter how big or small your town is, there's always a group looking for help.
I've found that without volunteers, many community events wouldn't be possible. That's why I do my part to support events and activities, especially those for kids and families. It's such a rewarding experience to see how these efforts bring people together and create meaningful opportunities.
If you're unsure where to start, working for a company that supports volunteering can be a great resource. Don't hesitate to reach out to your coworkers and ask where they volunteer. You might be surprised at the connections and opportunities that open up when you tag along and learn from their experiences. Volunteering can be as easy as finding the right fit for you, and it's one of the best ways to give back to your community.
Congratulations, Katie, on being featured as a Volunteer Spotlight! We are honored to showcase the impact you have on your community. First Mid is proud to support your volunteer efforts. To read our other employee spotlights, click here.
