The Transportation & Public Works Department is proud to announce that they were honored with multiple awards at the 2026 American Public Works Association (APWA) Public Works Workshop, held in February in Fort Worth. These awards highlight the dedication, innovation and professionalism of our employees who work every day to serve our community and protect the environment.
This award recognizes innovative management practices that improve efficiency and service delivery. The Stormwater Operations Dashboard exemplifies forward-thinking solutions by enhancing real-time data access, streamlining operations and supporting informed decision-making across the organization. The award-winning map-enabled dashboard was developed to track stormwater asset growth and inventory counts to support stormwater operations. It highlights the expansion and total value of assets - such as pipes, inlets, channels, culverts and bar ditches - and incorporates condition assessment data and Business Risk Exposure (BRE) scoring to help prioritize inspections and maintenance efforts.
The Structures category honors projects involving new public structures or the preservation and rehabilitation of existing municipal buildings and parks. Our Concrete Team earned this distinction for outstanding craftsmanship and commitment to quality in public infrastructure, demonstrating excellence in design, construction and long-term community benefit.
The Field Excellence Award recognizes individuals whose actions in the field have had a significant impact on public services and environmental protection. Paul Olea was honored for his exceptional customer service, innovation and noteworthy achievements that resulted in increased productivity and cost savings while meeting the goals of public works.
This award seeks to inspire excellence and dedication in the public sector by recognizing an employee whose equipment operation skills exceed the norm. Jimmy Kersey's outstanding performance, precision and commitment to safety set a high standard for professionalism and reliability in the field.
Kevin Stone represented our organization with distinction by earning second place in the Zero Turn competition, showcasing technical skill, focus and competitive spirit among peers from across the region.
These honors reflect not only individual achievement but also the collective commitment of the entire department to innovation, service and operational excellence. Each award underscores TPW's mission to provide high-quality public works services while continuously improving how they serve our residents.
TPW extends their sincere congratulations to all recipients and teams recognized at this year's APWA Public Works Workshop. Your hard work and dedication make a meaningful difference in our community every day.
