This week, ahead of the 80th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Ambassador Martin Selmayr went with his Deputy Veronica Vaccari to the Vatican to discuss the EU's priorities with senior diplomats of the Holy See, who is an influential observer at the UN. The EU works together with all our allies and partners for an authentic, just and lasting peace in the many wars and conflicts in the world, notably in Ukraine where Russia's war of aggression continues without pause and with countless victims, and in Gaza where the humanitarian situation becomes more alarming every day. We are and remain committed to the rules-based international system, with the UN at its core, to multilateral cooperation, to solidarity with the less developed nations of this planet and to the need to address climate change and biodiversity loss. More than 42% of global official development assistance and 33% of the voluntary contributions to the UN system come from the EU and its Member States.
