MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ - Middlesex County is providing voters in New Jersey with many easy and accessible ways to cast their vote in the 2026 Primary Election on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Those options include mailing ballots through the United States Postal Service (USPS) or dropping a ballot in any of the 30+ secure ballot drop box locations across the County; six days of early voting at any of the 10 early voting locations in the County; or voting in person at their assigned polling location on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

"The act of voting is more than simply casting a ballot - it is an opportunity for residents to make their voices heard and help shape a future that reflects their values and priorities," said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios. "Whether it is someone's first time voting or one of many, I encourage all eligible voters to participate in the upcoming primary election and choose the voting method that works best for them."

"Middlesex County remains committed to ensuring that every resident has a safe, secure, and accessible option to cast their ballots," said Middlesex County Clerk Nancy J. Pinkin. "In this election, as in every election, every voice, every vote matters. I want voters to feel confident exercising their right to vote, knowing their participation is protected, valued, and fully counted - no matter which voting method they choose."

ABOUT PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Primary elections allow registered voters in a political party, such as the Democratic or Republican Party, to select the candidates who will represent their party in the November General Election. Under the New Voter Empowerment Act, 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by Tuesday, November 3 - the date of the General Election - are eligible to vote in the June 2 Primary Election. To participate in the Primary Election, residents must be registered to vote in Middlesex County by Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

There are four ways for residents to register to vote:

  • Online Registration: Residents may register online at the New Jersey Online Voter Registration website. They will need their date of birth and one of the following forms of identification: a current and valid Driver's License or a non-driver Identification Card (ID Card) issued by the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) or their Social Security Number.
  • In Person: Residents may register at the Middlesex County Board of Elections' Office, 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick.
  • By Mail: Residents may mail a completed voter registration application to the Middlesex County Board of Elections' Office, 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick.
  • Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC): Residents may register to vote while applying for or renewing their driver's license.

GUIDELINES FOR UNAFFILIATED VOTERS

Unaffiliated voters who are registered to vote may choose to vote in either the Democratic Primary Election or the Republican Primary Election. If voting in person, either early or on Primary Election Day, an unaffiliated voter will declare their party affiliation at the polls before voting in the Primary Election.

Only registered Democratic and Republican voters are eligible to receive a mail-in ballot for the Primary Election. Unaffiliated voters may still cast their vote for the primary election in person during early voting or on Primary Election Day, June 2, 2026. They will then be registered as members of the party they cast their vote for from that point forward. A voter must submit a change of party affiliation form to become a registered unaffiliated voter again.

If an unaffiliated voter would like to receive a mail-in ballot by mail for the 2026 Primary Election, they must declare their party affiliation with either the Democratic or Republican Party. A political affiliation declaration must be returned by May 26, 2026, to receive a mail-in ballot by mail or by 3 pm on June 1, 2026, to receive a mail-in ballot in person.

Middlesex County has created a convenient, easy-to-use resource to learn about how to vote in the Primary Election. It can be found at middlesexcountynj.gov/vote.

HOW TO VOTE IN THE 2026 PRIMARY ELECTION

There are three ways to vote in the 2026 Primary Election:

  • Vote by Mail
  • In-person early voting locations will be open Tuesday, May 26, through Saturday, May 30, from 10 am-8 pm, and Sunday, May 31, from 10 am- 6 pm. No appointment is necessary.

VOTE BY MAIL

Registered voters who are not already on the permanent Vote-by-Mail list and wish to vote from home can submit a Mail-In Ballot request through the State's secure online Vote by Mail portal. They may also mail a completed Mail-In Ballot Application to the Middlesex County Clerk's Office, 26 Kennedy Blvd, Suite B, East Brunswick.

The County Clerk's Office must receive Mail-In Ballot Applications submitted online or by mail no later than seven days prior to Primary Election Day. For the June 2026 Primary Election, Mail-In Ballot Applications sent via mail must be received by the County Clerk's Office by Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Voters may apply for a Mail-In Ballot in person or by authorized messenger at the Office of the County Clerk at 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick, up to 3 pm on Monday, June 1 (the day before the election).

Voters can choose one of the following options to return their Mail-In Ballot:

  • Drop the ballot in a designated Middlesex County Board of Elections drop box by 8 pm on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Due to current mail delays, the County recommends that voters place their ballots in drop boxes for timely ballot collection. A list of drop boxes located in every municipality throughout the County can be found here on the County's website. Drop boxes are maintained by the Middlesex County Board of Elections, are secure, and are monitored 24/7 by video surveillance. Ballots are collected from drop boxes regularly.
  • Mail the ballot through the United States Postal Service. Mail-In Ballots must be postmarked on or before 8 pm on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
  • Take it directly to the Board of Elections' Office, 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick by 8 pm on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

A poll worker can scan a voter's sample ballot or driver's license into the Electronic Pollbook if the voter's registration record includes their driver's license number, greatly expediting the check-in process.

In-person early voting locations will be open Tuesday, May 26, through Sunday, May 31, for the 2026 Primary Election. The hours will be Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am-8 pm, and Sunday, 10 am-6 pm. No appointment is necessary.
