Preliminary Digital Flood Hazard Maps for the Physical Map Revisions 1 & 2 in Collier County are Ready for Public ViewingPost Date:06/12/2025 1:50 PM Notice of Public Meeting Preliminary Digital Flood Hazard Maps for the Physical Map Revisions 1 & 2 in Collier County are Ready for Public Viewing Residents and property owners in Collier County can view new draft preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) at an upcoming Flood Risk Open House on June 17, 2025, or June 18, 2025. FIRMs show the potential extent and risks of flooding. They will be used to determine flood insurance premiums and building requirements. At the open houses, attendees can learn about their risk of flooding and ask questions about what the new maps will mean for their property. Specialists and subject matter experts will be on hand to meet one-on-one and discuss flood risk, flood insurance, appeals, mitigation options, as well as the engineering behind the flood insurance study. The public is welcome to stop by at any time. No formal presentation will be given. Home and business owners, renters, real estate agents, mortgage lenders, surveyors, and insurance agents are encouraged to attend. The times and locations for the Flood Risk Open Houses are: Tuesday, June 17, 2025, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (City of Naples) Baker Park Pavilion 100 Riverside Circle Naples, FL 34102 Wednesday, June 18, 2025, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Unincorporated Collier County) South Regional Library 8065 Lely Cultural Pkwy. Naples, FL 34113 The new preliminary FIRMs were developed through a partnership between the communities and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. They are based on updated modeling data and more accurately depict flood hazards than previous maps. The goal of the open houses is to inform property owners and the community of their flood risks. Over time, these risks change due to construction and development, environmental changes, watershed conditions, and other factors. Flood maps are updated periodically to reflect these changes. By law, federally regulated or insured mortgage lenders are required to obtain flood insurance for buildings located in areas at high risk of flooding. Standard homeowners, business owners, and renters' insurance policies typically don't cover flood damage; consequently, flood insurance is an essential consideration for everyone with coastal property. Flood insurance policies can be purchased from any state-licensed property and casualty insurance agent. Call the National Flood Insurance Program Help Center at 800-427-4661 or visit https://www.floodsmart.gov for more information. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or other reasonable accommodations to participate in this proceeding, should contact the Collier County Facilities Management Division, located at 3335 Tamiami Trail E., Suite 101, Naples, Florida 34112, or (239) 252-8380, as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event. Such reasonable accommodations will be provided at no cost to the individual. Return to full list >>
