Moffitt Cancer Center Announces Research Alliance With Takeda To Advance Cancer Therapies

June 18, 2026

TAMPA, Fla. - Moffitt Cancer Center today announced a new research alliance with Takeda that will focus on advancing clinical and translational studies in hematologic malignancies, particularly myeloid cancers and solid tumor indications. The partnership builds on a long relationship between the two organizations and reflects a shared commitment to developing new treatment approaches for patients with complex and aggressive cancers.

The alliance is intended to support a broad range of research activities. This includes clinical trials and mechanistic studies that explore drivers of cancer growth and progression, predictors of response and immune pathways. The collaboration's initial focus will be blood cancers, and both organizations will evaluate opportunities to expand the work into solid tumors, including gastrointestinal cancers and non-small cell lung cancer, as part of a joint effort to assess innovative therapeutic strategies.

By combining Moffitt's scientific expertise with Takeda's global research and development capabilities, the collaboration is designed to accelerate the pace at which new therapies move from early research to patient care. In addition, the work aims to generate insights that help identify biomarkers, refine treatment selection and expand opportunities for participation in clinical trials. Together, these efforts have the potential to advance a more precise and personalized approach to cancer care.

"Moffitt is committed to research that leads to meaningful improvements in patient care, and this alliance strengthens our ability to bring forward new therapies for people with cancer," said Patrick Hwu, MD, president and CEO of Moffitt. "Working with Takeda allows us to build on our shared history and pursue studies that may shape the future of treatment for both blood cancers and solid tumors."

"We are looking forward to expanding our collaboration with Moffitt, whose leadership in oncology research has been essential to driving innovation for people living with cancer," said Phuong Khanh (P.K.) Morrow, MD, Head of the Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit at Takeda. "Takeda is committed to delivering medicines that address thoracic, gastrointestinal and hematologic malignancies. Through this collaboration, along with our expertise in blood cancers and solid tumors, we aim to advance studies that have the potential to improve outcomes for patients and shape the next generation of therapies."
