CEF Energy: CINEA launches 5th call for Cross-Border Renewable Energy Projects to obtain the status

On 2 September, CINEA launched the 5th call for projects aiming to obtain the Cross-Border Renewable Energy (CB RES) status.

Obtaining the CB RES status is mandatory for projects wishing to access EU funding for studies and works under the CB RES window of the CEF Energy Programme. Being granted this status not only unlocks eligibility for financial support, but also provides greater visibility at EU level, stronger support from Member States, and increased investor confidence

Promoters of eligible cross-border renewable energy projects can submit their applications via the dedicated CB RES submission platform by 5 February 2026.

Join the virtual info day

To guide project promoters through the application process, CINEA is hosting a virtual info day on 23 September. The session will cover the policy context, the application and evaluation process, and provide tips for a successful proposal.

Background on the CB RES under CEF Energy

Launched in 2021, the CB RES window supports projects that involve cross-border cooperation - either between EU Member States or between Member States and non-EU countries. Projects can cover a wide range of renewable energy technologies, including onshore and offshore wind, solar, sustainable biomass, ocean and geothermal energy, as well as hybrid solutions.

Since its creation, the programme has already awarded over EUR 91 million to 14 innovative projects, contributing to the EU's decarbonisation goals and strengthening the security of energy supply. (Three additional projects are currently under grant agreement preparation, adding EUR 76.3 million of CEF support)
