City Seeks Input on General Plan Update

City Seeks Input on General Plan Update

Post Date:12/18/2025 1:12 PM

The City of Oceanside is asking residents to weigh in on three major plans that will shape our community's future-from where new homes and businesses go, to how we manage climate change, to what our major streets will look like in the future.

What's this about?

The City of Oceanside has updated three "big-picture" planning documents based on feedback from residents like you:

General Plan Update - This is Oceanside's master blueprint for growth. It confirms where development can take place, and protects neighborhoods and natural areas for the next 20+ years.

Smart & Sustainable Corridors Specific Plan- This plan focuses on making major streets (like Coast Highway and Oceanside Boulevard) more walkable, bikeable, and transit-friendly while adding housing and businesses near public transportation.

Climate Action Plan Update - Our roadmap for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to climate change, and making Oceanside more sustainable and resilient.

Why is it Important?

These plans will directly affect:

  • Your neighborhood's character - What gets built near you and how it looks
  • Getting around - Traffic, parking, biking, and transit options
  • Quality of life - Access to parks, trails, and open space
  • Climate resilience - How we prepare for sea level rise and extreme weather
  • Local economy - The types of homes and businesses coming to Oceanside
  • What Specifically Needs Feedback?

The City is requesting comments on the Draft Recirculated Program Environmental Impact Report (Draft RPEIR). This is a "recirculated" environmental report, meaning the City made significant changes based on your previous feedback. This is your chance to review those changes and ensure your voice is heard before final decisions are made. This document analyzes potential impacts from the three plans on:

    • Traffic and transportation
    • Air quality and greenhouse gas emissions
    • Noise levels
    • Housing and population growth
    • Natural resources and habitat
    • Public services and utilities

Don't worry-you don't need to be an expert to comment. Your concerns and questions matter.

Key Deadlines & How to Participate
