Students need to be learning how to use the tools of tomorrow, today, so they're ready to hit the ground running after graduation. To help make this goal a reality, Alberta's government will begin a three-year partnership with Amii to develop AI learning kits for Alberta classrooms, as well as resources to help teachers build their knowledge in AI. The kits will complement existing digital literacy curriculum and AI instruction already taking place in classrooms throughout the province.

"Artificial intelligence is already reshaping how we work, learn and live - and Alberta students need to be ready for that reality. That's why we're strengthening AI education in a way that is safe, responsible and age-appropriate, with clear expectations around privacy, security and academic integrity. With its global leadership in artificial intelligence, Amii is the right partner to help Alberta lead the way in AI literacy."

Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Education and Childcare

This fall, Alberta's government and Amii will engage with businesses and education partners to get their input on the kits. To support the creation of these valuable kits, Alberta's government will be providing Amii with a grant of more than $2.7 million over three years.

"Alberta is building one of the most exciting AI ecosystems in the world and that starts with making sure our kids understand this technology. Amii is a world-class institution that has been at the forefront of AI research for more than two decades, and this partnership will help ensure the next generation of Albertans is ready to lead, not just participate, in the AI economy."

Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology and Innovation

Based in Edmonton, Amii is one of Canada's three national AI institutes, advancing the country's leadership in artificial intelligence as part of the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy. Amii currently helps teachers integrate AI literacy into their classroom learning and field trips, through free resources co-developed by educational and machine learning experts.

"AI is the defining literacy of the coming decades. By supporting our educators today, we ensure Alberta students are AI-confident and ready to lead as they enter the workforce. Amii is proud to empower Alberta's teachers with world-class training, sparking a ripple effect across thousands of classrooms. In doing so, we are training the architects of our future economy and securing Alberta's long-term prosperity as a global leader in innovation."

Cam Linke, CEO, Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute

"AI is already having an extraordinary impact on the economy, the future of work and education. It is encouraging to hear that Alberta Education and Childcare is partnering with Amii to provide our province's schools with these agile and responsive resources to prepare our students for a rapidly changing world."

Jason Rogers, head of school, Rundle Academy
