City of Inglewood Launches Destination Market Street Façade and Tenant Improvement Program

The City of Inglewood launched the Destination Market Street Façade and Tenant Improvement Program ("Program") today, a grant program to support the economic growth of small businesses and placemaking in Downtown Inglewood by revitalizing and attracting new businesses on and around Market Street. PCR Finance and Capital (PCR) was selected by the Inglewood City Council to serve as the Program Administrator.

The Program kicked off with an informational workshop last night at the Inglewood Senior Center. Property and businesses owners from throughout Inglewood's Historic Core gathered to hear Mayor James T. Butts, Councilmember Eloy Morales, Councilmember Gloria Gray and Councilmember Dionne Faulk discuss the importance of this investment in Market Street and get details about the application process from City staff and PCR personnel.

Funded entirely through a grant from the State of California, the Program will enable the City to award grants of up to $250,000 to eligible businesses and property owners for improvements including, but not limited to, exterior and interior painting, signage, installation of new lighting, replacement of storefront windows and awnings, ADA compliant improvements, furniture, fixtures and equipment, and hazardous material abatement.

The City anticipates prioritizing neighborhood serving businesses, including food services, retail, and entertainment establishments for grants, although other businesses, including personal and professional services are eligible. Properties must have a valid lease agreement with a commercial tenant in place. A map of all eligible properties, which includes the properties zoned Mixed Use 1 (MU-1) and Historic Core (HC) on and around Market Street, along with more details about the Program, including the application can be found at www.pcrcorp.org/inglewood/. Property owners or tenants of eligible properties may initiate the application process.

PCR, a small business development corporation and community development financing institution, will also offer technical assistance and financial services to the Inglewood businesses.

This is the next step in Inglewood's renaissance," said Mayor Butts. "Inglewood will be the region's front door not just for the next Super Bowl, NBA All-Star weekend and World Cup but also for the 2028 Olympic Games and countless other events. Destination Market Street will facilitate investment in our businesses, helping them become preferred destinations for residents and visitors to eat, shop and play - not just during these events - but every day of the week for years to come.

The Destination Market Street Façade and Tenant Improvement Program is a core component of Inglewood's strategy to support local business growth. The City is also advancing streetscape improvements on Market Street and implementing the Inglewood Transit Connector (ITC) Program which will establish reliable transit connections between the Metro system and the City's Sports and Entertainment District, as well as updating the City's Downtown Inglewood Transit Oriented Development Plan to facilitate development consistent with the City's vision for strategic growth.

The City is planning to launch a second application period for the Destination Market Street Program, specifically for the businesses that will be relocated due to the ITC Program, in the Fall of 2025.
