Honduras: Statement by the Spokesperson on the latest developments

The EU expresses its concern regarding the recent decree and the statements by President Xiomara Castro and the president of the Congress, calling for a recount of the 2025 general election held on 30 November 2025.

The EU reiterates its support for the work of the Honduran electoral institutions and the official proclamation of results by the National Electoral Council, which recognised Nasry Asfura as the country's legitimate president-elect and confirmed the final results for the National Congress and municipal elections.

The EU condemns the acts of violence carried out against political actors in recent days and calls on all actors to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of power. The will of the Honduran people, clearly expressed through the electoral process, must be respected.
