In Unity and In Action: Maine Democrats Hit the Doors in 36 Towns to Protect Voting Rights in Huge Weekend of Action

Augusta, Maine -This weekend, Democrats across Maine turned out in force for a statewide Weekend of Action to protect absentee voting and defeat Question 1, a GOP-backed referendum that threatens the rights of senior, rural, and working voters.

While proponents of voter suppression were putting up lawn signs, Democratic volunteers and candidates were out in full force, knocking doors, having real conversations, and organizing in communities across the state.

A slate of gubernatorial and Senate candidates - Troy Jackson, Angus King III, Hannah Pingree and Jordan Wood - even joined volunteers to launch canvasses in 36 towns across 12 counties, showing that Democrats are united, energized, and ready to defend Maine's democracy.

"What we know from the data collected from conversations with voters while knocking on doors across the state is that once Mainers hear about how Question 1 makes it more difficult for seniors, rural and working voters to cast a ballot, over 90% are opposed," said Devon Murphy-Anderson, Executive Director of the Maine Democratic Party. "We are fully committed to doing everything in our power as a Party to protect voting rights for every eligible Maine voter."

This weekend marked growing momentum for MDP's No On 1 campaign's Get Out the Vote push. Maine Democrats will continue hosting canvasses, phone banks, and community events every weekend leading up to Election Day on November 4th.
