County Commissioners proclaim
May as Apraxia Awareness Month

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed May 2026 as Apraxia Awareness Month during the May 28 Commissioner Workshop Meeting.

The proclamation was presented to Shaylyn Stilwell and Bernadette Mullen, Owners of Speech Start LLC, by Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, on behalf of the Board.

"My fellow Commissioners and I stand in support of children and families impacted by Childhood Apraxia of Speech," said Commissioner Director Arnone. "This neurological condition affects a child's ability to produce speech despite knowing what they would like to communicate. Raising awareness to encourage an early diagnosis can help families access the support and resources they need. Access to therapy makes a difference, and Apraxia Awareness Month is an essential opportunity to spread the significance of advocacy, education, and understanding"
