GUNNISON, Colo. - Curecanti National Recreation Area is transitioning to winter operations. Check the park websites for park hours, closures, and current conditions before your trip.
Visitor Center and activities

The Elk Creek Visitor Center will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with a closure for lunch from 12:00 to 12:30 pm. The visitor center is closed on all fall, winter, and spring federal holidays. Come and see the brand-new permanent exhibits!

While access to the park is limited during the winter season, visitors are welcome to utilize trails and roads for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
Campgrounds and water

Loops A and D in Elk Creek Campground will be open all winter. Vault toilets are available in Loop A. Electrical sites are available in Loop D.

Water is unavailable during the winter season.
Boating and ramps

Winter boat launching is possible at select launches. Please see the park website for details. Please exercise extreme caution on icy ramps. Aquatic invasive species (AIS) operations will continue at Blue Mesa Reservoir.

The ramp at Elk Creek will be open from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm daily until further notice or when reservoir or ramp ice prevents safe launching. Closures will be posted on the website. Other ramps are closed.

After December 15, if ramps are clear of ice and snow and vessels can be safely launched, inspections and launching of green-sealed watercraft will be available by appointment. Call (719) 530-6770 for a launch appointment.
Winter is a special time to visit Curecanti. Visitors can enjoy hiking, camping, stargazing, and ice fishing and snow sports when conditions allow. Your safety is your responsibility. Check weather and terrain conditions before recreating. Check the National Weather Service forecast at
