McCurtain County Campus hosts 2026 Prospective Teacher Academy for local schools

IDABEL, Okla. - For the fourth consecutive year, the McCurtain County Campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University hosted its Prospective Teacher Academy on Wednesday.

More than 40 students from Broken Bow, Haworth, Idabel, and Mount Vernon (Texas) High Schools came to Idabel attended to learn more and plan their future steps.

2025 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Melissa Evon inspired these future educators to "see the light, be the light, and just get out of the boat" as she delivered a humorous and engaging keynote address.

"The contagious energy, collaborative presentations, and informative discourse on financial aid and degree plans created an inspiring day for our future teachers," said campus director Kendra Gross. "The Prospective Teacher Academy is one of the most important days every year at the McCurtain County campus, and we're so glad we can continue this wonderful event for our local students."

The Department of Educational Instruction and Leadership will host a similar event on the Durant campus next Wednesday, March 11.
