GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - June 18, 2026 - Nicole L. Weingartner, director in the Government Law & Policy Practice of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, recently negotiated a license agreement between Suffolk County and her client, The People's Arc of Suffolk, allowing the nonprofit to continue occupying a facility constructed on county-owned property and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on Long Island.
The People's Arc of Suffolk had operated the facility, located at 214 Old Riverhead Road, Westhampton Beach, for decades without a formal occupancy agreement. After the prior county administration identified the lapse, it sought to impose market-rate rent, a cost that would have amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars and threatened the closure of a key program serving individuals with disabilities on Long Island's East End.
Weingartner served as the organization's lobbying advocate throughout the resolution process. For more than three years, she worked across successive county administrations to negotiate terms that allowed The People's Arc of Suffolk to retain use of the site. The license agreement was approved June 12.
"This is a win for a nonprofit agency that does deeply important work for families across Suffolk County," Weingartner said. "It's also an example of how government and nonprofits can work together to create outcomes that benefit the most vulnerable in our communities. I'm proud that Greenberg Traurig is leading the way on these kinds of critical issues."
