ICYMI : At Hearing with Acting AG Blanche, Senator Murray Blasts Outrageous Creation of $1.8 Billion MAGA Slush Fund

Washington, D.C. - Following this morning's hearing with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche-during which Blanche failed to provide any justifiable defense of the Department of Justice (DOJ) establishing a new $1.8 billion slush fund to pay out Trump loyalists-Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, called for Congress to block the $1.8 billion slush fund however possible, including through the appropriations process.

"This morning, the president's personal lawyer turned acting Attorney General came before Congress and defended setting up a $1.8 billion slush fund to send Americans' hard-earned tax dollars directly to Trump loyalists. He even told us that, after getting pardons from the president, January 6 rioters may now also get taxpayer-funded payouts. Afterward, we learned that just this morning, Blanche quietly expanded this corrupt settlement to protect Trump, his family, and his businesses from ever being held accountable for cheating on their taxes.

"This is insane-and the corruption is staggering. Instead of doing literally anything to help families get by, the sitting President of the United States is colluding with the Department of Justice to steal from American taxpayers and send checks to convicted criminals and his closest friends.

"Enough is enough. Republicans need to join us to block Trump's MAGA slush fund however possible, and I'll be pushing to get this done as the Senate drafts funding bills this summer."
