A New Graphics Editor for Investigations

I am delighted to announce that Sara Chodosh will be joining the Investigations desk as a graphics editor.

Sara won't have to travel far to join the team. Over the last five years she produced outstanding work for the Opinion desk, including reporting on the alarming racial gap in American road deaths and the potentially devastating impact of cuts to U.S.A.I.D .

We were particularly impressed by her original reporting and visual storytelling to explore the startling rate of pregnancy-associated homicides, an issue she brought into sharp relief through the story of a young woman named Markitha. Interviews with researchers, public health experts and, crucially, Markitha's family resulted in a riveting, deeply reported and revealing piece of journalism .

"Sara has been central to many of Opinion's most challenging data-driven projects over the past few years," said Jeremy Ashkenas, who oversees graphics for Opinion. "She's an incredible collaborator - working seamlessly with external experts, columnists and the editorial board. I can't wait to see the work she'll contribute on Investigations."

Sara came to The Times from Popular Science, where she wrote and edited hundreds of stories, ran the infographics section of the magazine and developed a deep and abiding love for print. Her work has won multiple awards from the Society for News Design and the Society of Publication Designers.

She grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs and double majored in neurobiology and philosophy of science as an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania.

She will report to me and start on the desk Sept. 21st. Please join me in welcoming her!
