The University of Toledo Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is participating in the second annual Clash of the Cans: Rockets vs. Falcons Food Drive. The canned goods will go to the Rocket Fuel student food pantry on campus to help UToledo students in need.
The drive is a Battle of I-75 rivalry competition between UToledo and Bowling Green students and will take place now through Saturday, Nov. 22. The school with the most cans donated will win the Clash of the Cans.
UToledo student athletes will be collecting at entrances of the games listed below. There also will be a donation bin located at the ticket office in Savage Arena for the duration of the competition.
Monday, Nov. 3 - Men's Basketball vs. South Alabama
Wednesday, Nov. 5 - Football vs. Northern Illinois
Friday, Nov. 7 - Women's Volleyball vs. Buffalo
Saturday, Nov. 8 - Men's Basketball vs. Marshall
Some acceptable food items to donate include canned goods, instant potatoes, rice, pasta, cereal, beans, oatmeal, granola bars, popcorn, trail mix and spices. If unable to provide food, nonperishable household items and dollar donations also will be accepted.
The Rocket Fuel student food pantry welcomes donations and community support. During the 2024-25 school year, there were 4,184 total visits to the Rocket Fuel student food pantry.
"Coming together to support UToledo students in need, as well as beating That Team Down South, truly embodies the heart of Team Toledo," said SAAC President and Toledo women's cross country/track & field student-athlete Olivia Gang. "My hope is that we have more donations than we have space for."
