Honda returns to the podium in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 120

Honda scored another podium finish in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge championship, finishing third at the Brickyard in the two-hour Indianapolis Motor Speedway 120 following a last lap sprint to the finish for the #93 MMG Honda of LP Montour and Karl Wittmer. This marked Honda's eighth podium result of the season in TCR competition.

Honda continued its strong qualifying form, capturing another front-row lockout as Rocco Pasquarella put the #5 TMR Honda on pole with a record-setting lap, earning his third pole position of the season and Honda's sixth in 2026 TCR competition. The #93 MMG Honda of LP Montour, who has earned three pole positions of his own this season, was just 0.009 seconds behind, making it a Honda-only front row.

The opening stages of the race were interrupted by a series of caution periods, with the two frontrunner Hondas establishing themselves at the front while the #72 Honda was forced off track from sixth position. Pegram Racing recovered and worked their way back through the field before the team made its scheduled pit stop during a mid-race caution.

After a restart, the MMG Honda briefly lost the lead but quickly regained momentum, pulling several seconds clear of the competition while the TMR entry began to lose ground as a mechanical issue developed, which then ultimately forced them to retire.

MMG maintained a strong position at the front of the field, running second and managing the race as the team looked to capitalize on its pace. A late caution, however, set up a one-lap dash to the finish.

As the field took the green for the final lap, Wittmer made an immediate move for the lead and briefly took the top spot. However, rain had moved in over certain areas of the track, and he was the first to encounter the increasingly slippery conditions and ran wide, ultimately crossing the finish line in third.

The Pegram Racing Honda completed a determined recovery drive to finish sixth, securing the team's best result of the season after being forced off track early in the race.

I started P2 and lost one position at the start, but I kept the car underneath me for the whole stint. Another car in front of me broke, so we went back to being two Hondas leading. From there, I got the opportunity to draft between a GS competitor and another car to make the pass to move into P1 and lead for a bit. It went really well."

Karl Wittmer (#93 MMG Honda) Finished 3rd: "In general, we both had good stints. The car performed as it should. It was an all hands on-deck effort from HRC, MMG, and JAS Motorsport. We had this weird restart with the green and white flag both waving at the same time. I made a move and got the lead, but unfortunately the tires had cooled down a little bit too much, and then it was raining in certain areas of the track. Going into Turn 7, I was the first man in. I hit the water, overshot the corner, two guys passed me, and we secured third. But I'm very proud of the team and the group, and we'll move on to the next round."
