#HLPF2026 Deputy Chairperson stressed challenges require integrated approaches

Addressing the General Debate of the #HLPF2026, H.E. the Deputy Chairperson, Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi, stressed that today's challenges require integrated approaches - not just coordination - to implement the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.

She emphasized that sustainable development cannot be built on isolated interventions. Progress on water, energy, food security, industrialization, and sustainable cities is deeply interconnected, and requires strong public institutions, coherent national planning, and financing that strengthens national systems, reinforces country ownership, and builds lasting institutional capacity.

She further noted that Africa's transformation - driven by its youthful population, vast renewable energy potential, critical minerals, and the African Continental Free Trade Area - is essential to global sustainability. To accelerate delivery, the international community must provide greater access to affordable development finance, scaled-up climate finance, technology transfer, and investment in productive capacity. The time has come to translate our commitments into concrete results with greater urgency, coherence, and impact.
