Open enrollment: What it is and why it matters

Open enrollment is the annual period when you can sign up for, change or renew your health insurance coverage.

Providence accepts many health insurance plans. Taking time to review your options during open enrollment can help you find a plan that meets your health needs, fits your budget and ensures you keep your care with the Providence doctors, clinics and hospitals you know and trust.

Open enrollment applies to several types of health insurance:

• Individual and family plans: Typically available through the federal or state health insurance marketplace during an annual enrollment period.
• Employer-sponsored plans: If you receive health insurance through your employer, your organization will set its own enrollment dates, often in the fall.
• Medicare: Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 and allows eligible individuals to change Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans.
• Medicaid and the Oregon Health Plan: Enrollment is generally available year-round for those who qualify.
