City of Irvine to Host May 13 Swearing-In Ceremony

The City of Irvine invites the community to attend the swearing-in ceremony for Councilmember-elect Betty Martinez Franco Tuesday, May 13, at the Irvine City Hall Council Chamber.

On December 10, 2024, the Irvine City Council voted to hold a Special Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, to elect a Councilmember to represent Council District 5 through the end of 2026. Residents can explore Council District boundaries, including District 5, using the City's interactive district dashboard.

Voters in District 5 elected Betty Martinez Franco during the April 15 election, and the City Council certified the results on May 2. Her election completes Irvine's transition to district-based representation, which began with the Charter Amendment that expanded the City Council from five to seven members.

The City Council meeting will begin at 4 p.m., recess from approximately 5 to 6 p.m. for a welcome reception in the City Hall lobby, and resume at 6 p.m. for the official swearing-in.

Residents can watch the ceremony live on ICTV, available on Cox Communications Channel 30, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, cityofirvine.org/ictv, and youtube.com/ictv30(link is external).
