Water-Tracing Study Planned in Sheyenne River

FARGO, N.D. - As part of the construction of the Sheyenne River Aqueduct, ASN Constructors
will be conducting a water-tracing study in the Sheyenne River near the Sheyenne River
Aqueduct, located southwest of Horace, ND. The study will take place on Friday, September 4,
2026, and is being performed to better understand water movement around the aqueduct
structure and to support ongoing evaluation of the structure.

The study will involve a non-toxic, environmentally safe tracer dye being introduced to the river
at a controlled rate. Tracer dyes are commonly used in hydrologic studies to identify water
movement and flow paths. The dye will be added at a very low concentration and will naturally
dilute as it moves downstream. The tracer dye is non-toxic and is not expected to adversely
affect people, fish, wildlife or the environment when used at the concentration associated with
this study.

A temporary change in water color may be visible around the study area and downstream. Any
visible coloration is expected to dissipate as the dye is diluted and exposed to natural
environmental conditions.
