Abstracts for the 2026 Wakefield Fisheries Symposium due Jan. 30

Sea Grant Alaska has issued a call for abstracts for the 2026 Wakefield Fisheries Symposium. Abstracts are due by Jan. 30.

Marine heatwaves at high latitudes: Tools for tracking and supporting fisheries resilience

We invite fishery researchers, managers and other professionals to attend the 2026 Wakefield Fisheries Symposium to share knowledge, experience and learn about marine heatwaves at high latitudes. This symposium will explore the impacts of extreme warming events on high-latitude fisheries and highlight tools and strategies to build resilience in fishery management. Participants worldwide are invited to share case studies to compare approaches across regions.

Abstracts are due by January 30 for consideration as oral or poster presentations. Oral sessions will focus on three key themes related to marine heatwaves:

  • climate, oceanography, and ecosystem dynamics
  • species-focused case studies
  • management responses and adaptation strategies

Abstracts on any topic related to marine heatwaves may be submitted for inclusion in a general poster session.
