UNM hosts Professional Development Day for student affairs staff

The University of New Mexico's Division of Student Affairs will host Professional Development Day on Wednesday, April 2, offering a full slate of programming aimed at enhancing staff well-being, communication, and professional skills.

The day begins with a networking session from 8:30 to 9 a.m. in the Career Services Conference Room (UAEC Room 220), featuring coffee and pastries sponsored by Career Services.

Morning Session - 9 to 11 a.m.
Attendees can participate in "No, Really, I'm Totally Fine! Practical Strategies for Managing Yourself in High-Stress Times," led by Megan Chibanga, executive director of Residence Life and Student Housing. The interactive session, held in the DOS Conference Room, will address the emotional toll of student affairs work and introduce strategies for boundary-setting, resilience and work-life balance.

Afternoon sessions - 1 to 3 p.m.
At 1 p.m., staff can attend either "Student Affairs Surveys, Part 1," facilitated by Tina Zuniga in the CEOP Conference Room, or "UNM Staff Benefits - The Fun Stuff!," a panel discussion featuring representatives from Popejoy, Employee Wellness, Continuing Education, Johnson Gym and CARS in the DOS Conference Room.

The programming continues at 2 p.m. with "Student Affairs Surveys, Part 2," offering deeper insights into survey design and analysis, and "Reignite & Recharge: Exploring Motivation and Burnout," an interactive workshop led by Jenna Crabb in the DOS Conference Room. Crabb's session will help participants reflect on motivation, manage burnout and identify strategies for ongoing professional development.

Professional Development Day is hosted by the Student Affairs Professional Development Committee and aims to support staff growth, self-care and continued learning across the division.
