JEFFERSON CITY, MO - The Missouri Department of Social ServicesMO HealthNet Division (MHD)convened the inaugural meeting of its MO HealthNet Community Connection (MCC). This marks an important step toward ensuring that the voices of Medicaid participants are reflected in program development and decision-making.
MCC formally serves as MHD's Beneficiary Advisory Council, created in response to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Final Rule 89-40542. The MCC brings together a diverse group of MO HealthNet participants, along with their families and caregivers, to share their lived experience with Missouri's Medicaid program . Members represent a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences and were selected for their insight, commitment, and ability to help strengthen Missouri's Medicaid program.
"The MCC gives the people we serve a real seat at the table," said Jessie Dresner, MHD Chief Operating Officer. "Hearing directly from participants, families, and caregivers helps us understand their experiences, address their needs, and make Missouri's Medicaid program work better for everyone."
Through this council, participants will advise and make recommendations to the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), which guides MHD on matters related to policy development and the effective administration of the Medicaid program. The MCC is designed to engage participants and family members directly, offering meaningful opportunities to collaborate with MHD leaders to improve the program and strengthen the relationship between MHD and those it serves. The council is designed to be more than a formality. It is a forum where meaningful dialogue can take place, ensuring that MHD policies and initiatives are guided by the experiences of those served.
The first meeting included introductions, orientation, and networking, setting the foundation for a collaborative relationship between MHD and council members. Participants emphasized the importance of having a structured and ongoing opportunity to provide input on issues that affect their care, families, and communities. The Beneficiary Advisory Council will meet regularly throughout the year. Meeting summaries and additional information about the council are available on the MHD Community Connection webpage.
