On January 20, a cultural diplomacy-themed event organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia for foreign diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Armenia was held atthe Matenadaran, the Mesrop Mashtots Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts.
Opening remarks were delivered by Davit Karapetyan, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, who stressed the importance of holding regular meetings in this format as a key platform for cultural dialogue.
Davit Karapetyan highlighted Armenia's significant contribution to the preservation and study of historical and cultural heritage, including ancient manuscripts, as well as the country's active engagement in international efforts in this field. In this context, the role of Matenadaran, listed in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register as early as 1997, was emphasised not only in preserving Armenian national memory but also in promoting the international commitment to the protection of cultural heritage.
Within the framework of the event, the guests had a guided tour through the museum, explored the remarkable collection of Armenian manuscripts and learned about their historical significance. They subsequently visited the institute to study the traditions of preserving and processing ancient manuscripts and to gain insight into the distinctive features of Armenian manuscript studies.
