5 Things for November from Monterey County Free Libraries

5 Things for November

November is a busy month! We change the clocks for Daylight Savings and begin to feel the transition from fall to winter. We also have many things to highlight and recognize.

  1. In November we celebrate Native American Heritage Month and each week we will highlight a Native American author on our social media pages. Be sure to check them out and perhaps you'll discover some new authors. Keep an eye out for displays in your local library.
  2. We honor and recognize Veterans this month. Monterey County has some excellent services for veterans including a clinic for veterans in Marina. In the libraries we have collections of books and DVDs with a focus on veterans' health and other needs at our Marina and King City Branch libraries at the Veterans Resource Centers.
  3. Our online resource VetNow directs veterans to benefits that they have earned. It has live assistants available from 2:00-10:00 pm PDT. It also helps veterans transition to civilian life through employment resources.
  4. Words & Wine is our annual fundraiser hosted by the Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries. This year the event will take place at Hacienda in Carmel Valley on November 16 from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. The theme is "Raise a Glass for Literacy!" The keynote speaker is Monterey County Poet Laureate Rachelle Escamilla and a ticket to the event covers lunch and two drinks. Learn more at the fmcfl.org.
  5. This month all branches of Monterey County Free Libraries will be closed on November 11 in recognition of Veterans Day. We will also be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday, November 27 and 28. Online resources, ebooks, audiobooks and emagazines are available 24/7.

We look forward to seeing you at the library.
