Ridgway appointed to Student Trustee position

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has appointed Carter D. Ridgway '26, a second-year student in the University's School of Law, to serve as a Student Trustee to the University of Akron (UA) Board of Trustees. Ridgway was appointed on July 10, 2026, for a two-year term ending July 1, 2028, filling the vacancy created by the expiration of Student Trustee Maxwell Pastoria's term, which ended July 1, 2026.

In addition to pursuing his law degree, Ridgway serves as treasurer for UA's student chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He also is a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and serves as an assistant editor of the Akron Law Review. During fall 2025, Ridgway earned two course-based awards for achieving the highest grade in his civil procedure classes, as well as his legal analysis, research and writing class.

"Carter will serve UA well in the capacity of Student Trustee," said President R.J. Nemer. "He is an undergraduate alumnus and current law student who demonstrates passion for the University's current momentum. I look forward to Carter adding valuable perspective during his time as a trustee."

Ridgway is currently a summer associate at the law firm of Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., L.P.A., in North Canton, Ohio.

"I am honored to have been appointed by Governor DeWine to serve as a student trustee," Ridgway said. "As a high school student, the opportunity to attend college often felt uncertain. However, The University of Akron opened doors that I could not have imagined and shaped my education, my career and my future. As such, having the opportunity to now serve this institution is an immense privilege."

Ridgway graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. As an undergraduate, he was active in the Honors Civics Club and College Republicans, holding leadership positions in both organizations.

Ridgway is a native of Uniontown, Ohio.
